Christmas is around the corner, and you know what that means: fire safety. Each year, fire departments respond to structure fires caused by Christmas trees. Carefully decorating Christmas trees will make the holidays safer.
For this holiday season, we at SERVPRO of El Dorado Hills/Placerville want to make sure that you and your family have a safe and festive season. Follow these steps to stay safe all winter long. And follow along during our 12 days of safety blogs to make sure that this season is merry and bright! Today’s focus is Indoor Christmas Light Safety!
- To help save both energy and money as well as help to eliminate the risk of fire, make sure to turn off your holiday lights when you leave your home or when you go to bed.
- Do not use strings of lights that are worn, frayed, manually spliced, or broken
- Do not overload power outlets with holiday lights. Pay close attention to the manufacturer’s instructions on the number of lights you can string together.
- Typically, do not link more than three light strands unless the directions indicate it is safe. Connect strings of lights to an extension cord before plugging the cord into the outlet.
- Be sure to periodically check the wires; they should not be warm to the touch!
