So why are house fires more common in the winter months? You are like a living Christmas card, where you bake holiday cookies in the oven, sit near your space heater or fireplace, all while entranced by the beautiful, flickering holiday lights and taking in the sweet aroma from your peppermint candle. Life could not be cozier.
Now consider that all of these holiday delights are fire hazards, it is now easy to see why house fires are so common during the winter. No matter the season, no matter the holiday, no matter the disaster, SERVPRO of El Dorado Hills/Placerville is ready to help!
So how can you use a space heater safely?
Space heaters can warm up those nooks and crannies in your house, but if you do not use them correctly, it can be very dangerous.
Some important tips to remember:
- Always turn off your space heater and unplug it when you are not in the room.
- Keep your space heater three or more feet away from any objects, including the walls, to reduce the risk of fire or heat damage.
- Never use an extension cord with a space heater, the cord could potentially melt and start a fire.
- If you have a gas space heater, turn on the gas after you strike your match.
- Never use your gas oven as a space heater, it increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
We at SERVPRO of El Dorado Hills/Placerville understand the stress a fire disaster in your home can cause. Our technicians know it is your home, but treat it with respect like their own. Our hope is to take that stress from you and make it “Like it never even happened.”
